Office Building at Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai

Mumbai, the commercial capital of India, hosts a number of multinational corporations and institutions. Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) was planned to decentralise the existing CBD in South Mumbai. Built on reclaimed land, the district is occupied by predominantly by commercial and office buildings. Absence of recreational activities and publics spaces contribute to the lack of activity thus leaving the city’s best public infrastructure underutilised after the working hours.

Masterplan

Under ‘Make in India’ initiative, the future development is aimed towards promoting start-ups and small/medium businesses. The huge demand for small/medium sized workspaces and the upcoming trend of ‘Co-Working’ spaces makes BKC an ideal location for one to grow their business. A new-mixed use typology will benefit the young workers, entrepreneurs, freelancers, and students looking for a place to acquire knowledge and will also contribute to an efficient use of the available public infrastructure throughout the day. Considering these aspects, co-working spaces for small/medium sized businesses and start-ups along with a public library will be a suitable project for this location. The proposal will also include retail activities and public areas which provide a space for collaboration and contemplation.
